Liz, This weekend was awesome. I am a person always on the go, and this was the first time in my life I ever relaxed like I did this weekend. We have already decided to re-book this fall. Thank you so much,

We had a great time staying in the cabin this weekend. We went snow shoeing a few times and built a snowman using the 2 ft. of snow. It was very relaxing and refreshing to get away from our computers and cell phones (we turned them off). We did all three 1000 piece puzzles, played games, and watched movies. I’m sure we’ll be back in the future. Thanks.

Thank you so much for a beautiful peaceful weekend getaway! We “recharged” our batteries…and what an amazing backdrop in which to do it in. The view is amazing, the walk around the pond relaxing. The cabin was gorgeous & relaxing—just what we were looking for. We enjoyed hiking the falls, the wineries, and then coming back here grilling dinner, and enjoying “couple time”. Thanks again for a great weekend so we could meet the coming weeks of stress as we move! Hope to be back again. The fall here must be amazing.

We had a great time here even if it was only a couple of days. What a great place to come to get away from everything. Very quiet & peaceful. One of our greatest memories was the fawn in the back of the cabin. It was beautiful! The pond was awesome. Great fishing! And the paddleboat & canoeing was fun, too! We will definitely be back. Tracey & Pam North Tonawanda, NY 6/21-23 We had a great time here. Nice area to stay in for a couple days getaway. The pond was awesome. Dear Liz, Here it is our last evening here already. I can’t think of a better way to have marked our 30th Anniversary (4/12/80 we were married). It was like going back in time. This is the closest we will ever get to being 23 again! Thank you for the wine. We really enjoyed that. This little cabin is so much like the little home we had when were first married. I just love it! Thank you for everything. You did really think of everything! Sincerely, Kathy &Y Robert

Jam packed trip. 20th Anniversary for Dana & I, rehearsal dinner, wedding, fishing trip. Looked for a place much like home and we found it here. Dana caught a dozen bass at night in the pond and landed a musky in Wauneta Lake. Grand time had by all.

Dear Liz, This place you have is an oasis. It is so full of peace & quiet & natural beauty! It cleared away all the clutter and helps to make it clear what in life is important. From every window & surrounding us, is beauty & solitude. From the golden knotty pine paneling to the pond, the fire pit, the hot tub under the stars, were one of a kind memories just waiting to be made. Such a beautiful spot. We have had a wonderful time. The cabin and everything provided was great—very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed morning and evening walks, the paddleboat, campfire, and waking up to see a doe and her fawn just outside on the lawn. We hate to leave. Dear Liz,
My wife and I had a fantastic time, sharing your beautiful cabin.  We will most definitely come back some day soon.  I turned 55 on Dec. 31.  Wow, what a birthday gift from my wife.  May the good Lord bless you and Paul, your future husband.  I loved the casino and the Soprano Deli.  Some of my friends will get a kick out of it.  Jacuzzi at midnight…fantastic experience…10 degrees below outside.
Always the Best,

We loved your beautiful cabin--the knotty pine just says “Relax.”  The cabin is so tastefully done.  We enjoyed every minute of it!  We took a walk on the trails in the snow!  It was beautiful.  The snow was crunchy.  I was so amazed at all the little details that helped make our stay memorable—sparkling grape juice, chocolate candy in Christmas tree jar, etc, etc!  I loved the quilt and brass bed—beautiful!
God bless you!

Ryan and I had a wonderful experience in your cabin.  It was the best surprise gift ever.  Even though the roads were very icy we had fun venturing through.  I think it is great that you rent this place to people looking to get away & relax.  This was more than what I imagined when Ryan said were staying in a cabin.  Thank you for all that you’ve done!
Warmest Wishes,

We truly had a great relaxing time. We purposed in our heats to do “nothing” and almost succeeded! We are so thankful to the Youman’s for presenting to the Church to offer this get-a-way opportunity. The cabin is truly more than anyone could ask or think of... kept so clean you relax and don’t worry about “germs”! We are so happy for your up and coming wedding and trust the Lord will enable you and Paul to faithfully live and serve Him until He comes!
Pastor Dan and Nancy

Dear Liz, We couldn’t have asked for a better mini-get-a-way. Summer in April!! How lucky we were to have found you and High Country Acres. We truly enjoyed the peace & quiet and then 20 minutes, away from the city life. The kids will talk about the pond & hot tub for awhile and the friendship they have with Nala! Jeff & I thank you for the wine. We enjoyed it while sitting on the porch gazing at the starlit sky and listening to the awesome sounds of nature. We will return!
Jeff & Diane

Thank you so much for letting me and my family stay here. I absolutely love Nala. I know I will have fun in the hot tub and fishing in the pond. I had so much fun.
Zachary (age 12)

Thank you for letting my family stay here. It was so pretty. And thank you for giving me the cot bed so I wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor. And it was pretty comfortable. I loved Nala. She was so cute with her long nose. She reminds me of my dog. This was the best way to spend my spring break. Even though this is my first full day, I know I will have fun in the hot tub and with the horse shoe pit.
Love, Toni Marie (age 10)

Liz & Nala, This cabin is so much more than a get-a-way---it’s a place you want to settle forever. The hot tub…canoeing…fishing…paddle boating…hiking or just reading on the porch make “High Country Acres” a relaxing out of the world experience. We enjoyed learning about the unusual history of the cabin and watching the DVD of it’s removal from the original site. What an a adventure that seemed to be! We wish you the happiest with your Paul and will be thinking of you on August 29th. Travis, thanks for teaching me how to fish! I caught bass!

Liz, Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful place. It is so hard to leave. We all had a wonderful time. The kids loved the paddleboat. I think they would have stayed in it all day. Despite the weather we were able to hike on many of the wonderful trails at Watkins Glen, Buttermilk Falls & Taughanach. We certainly will not forget our boat ride on Seneca Lake in the middle of the thunderstorm. Thank for your generosity & thoughtfulness. We will enjoy the cookies on our journey back to Ohio. God Bless & best wishes to you & Paul. We hope to see you again soon. We will certainly be back. It was just what we needed & more.
Dianne & Del

Liz, Nala was so much fun. We had a blast. I liked when she came in the boats with us. She looked very happy. Why don’t you get her a sailor’s hat? She’s so cute. For the wedding you should put little jewels on her leash. I had an excellent time.
Love, Megan (age 9)

Dear Liz, I had an excellent time in your cabin. It is so nice. I had so much fun on your paddleboat and with Nala on the paddleboat. Thank you for the cookies. They taste so good. I had one of the best times. I really liked the hot tub and the pond. Your dog is so cute. I can’t wait to come back. From Logan (age 11)

Dear Liz, We had one of our most enjoyable experiences ever in your cabin. You have made this place really comfortable and made us all feel at home. Even our little baby, Shenya, enjoyed every minute of it. The pond is very picturesque & we had fun in the paddleboat. I would definitely recommend this to my friends. I hope to come back next year to enjoy the trails & spend more time. Thanks & wish you the very best. Anu & Jay Marlboro, NJ Dear Liz, I loved staying at your cabin. My dad, Mom sister, and I enjoyed the paddleboat. The pond was beautiful. Also, the hot tub was very soothing. All around the cabin it is beautiful. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your cabin on our 5th Anniversary. We both enjoyed it, thoroughly, especially the hot tub. We loved being back in the country, and were wishing we could stay longer than just a weekend. We had a wonderful time swimming in the lake, playing horseshoes, relaxing in the hot tub, and enjoying your beautiful cabin. The whole experience was exactly what we needed, a chance to get away from the busyness of life…a chance to relax and focus or attention on each other. Thank you for the opportunity and kindness. May the Lord bless you and continue to use you. Best wishes on your upcoming wedding.

We hope to be back again next year and every year after. Thank you for your hospitality. Dave, Jen, Mathew, & Lydia I enjoyed swimming in the pond. It was fun. How can we ever thank you for your warm, thoughtful, compassionate hospitality. This retreat is exactly what we needed. A true answer to our prayers. Our three girls could not have had a better time. Catching tadpoles and running with Nala (so sweet). Our campfires and marshmallows were the perfect end to the day. This cabin quickly felt like home. Cozy, comfy, clean, and all amenities necessary were more than abundant. Hope to visit again very soon.

Liz, Thank you very much! You missed nothing here at your beautiful cabin-everything a traveler could need is here. The location is also great. We took trips to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Hammondsport. The kayaking was in all three lakes-too bad we didn’t get into the pond here. Another worthwhile trip is definitely the Corning Museum of Glass. I recommend it as a great trip for a rainy day. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for helping make our stay perfect. All those little extras…you’ve overlooked nothing! Thanks for putting us together with Pastor Manny- what a great place. Some of the things we enjoyed here: walking your beautiful grounds, spotting a huge deer just beyond the pond, watching several hummingbirds at the feeder, listening to the birds in the forest behind the cabin, owls at night, woodpeckers, etc. Our favorite was sitting in the hot tub at night watching the sky—wow! So many falling stars—so beautiful. Who knew Aurora Borealis was this far South! (Or was it angels dancing in the sky? Hmm?!) And who can forget our book blessing from the commons in Ithaca! Thanks for everything!! God Bless You!

Liz, You have really done a great job here. Everything is done with a taste of class and quality. Bob & I enjoyed everything about this peaceful place. Not knowing the area, we found out that it is a great location to take off on day trips. It was much better than staying in the city, and we loved making new friends with the local people. Two old musicians highly recommend this experience and hope to do it again. Thanks for everything,

Thank you so much for opening up your beautiful place to us. We had great time here, and you have just been wonderful. I have really enjoyed getting to know you over the past few days. This place is beautiful—so classy and well maintained! It really is the perfect cabin. I wished we could stay longer! I’m sure we will be back up to visit though, and when we do there is nowhere we would rather stay than your beautiful land here. Thank you again, so much for everything. Good luck in the coming months! Our hearts will be here with you!

Dear Liz, What can I say that hasn’t been written over and over? From the heart felt hospitality to peaceful surroundings. Every thoughtful detail has been put there to make your guests (now friends) feel as tho it is just for them! There is nothing here short of perfect and of quality just as you are. I have felt completely at home and welcome and I have found a new friend. I wish you and Paul the best of health, love, and happiness, because you so deserve it. May God Bless you. Be well.

Dear Liz, Thank you for so warmly welcoming my family and me as we gathering together in preparation for my wedding on August 8th, 2009. Ceremonies as such generally create a time when emotions, details, and errands run high, but the peace, simplicity and grace that God and you shared with us; your cabin guests at High Country Acres, easily helped keep the balance of Love properly positioned as the priority it’s meant to be on it’s own pedestal of life. After the wedding, when our family members and friends traveled back to their distant homes, my new husband land I sat back in your quaint cabin, enjoying the natural, serene surroundings that helped make ours a honeymoon we’ll fondly remember throughout all the years of our life. What a peaceful way it was to start our marriage! Thank you again!
With Blessings to you and yours always, Donna-Maria and Dan

Dear Liz, We can’t thank you enough for making us feel so welcome and taken care of at High Country Acres. You have created a very special place, and it is obvious that your signature of creature comforts and attention to detail are all over your cabin and your property. An especially “nice” touch was being able to toss a fresh salad with lettuce from your garden- real treat for those that love to cook. One of our highlights, outside of stargazing in the hot tub, was just sitting on the front porch and looking out on the pond, feeling the summer breeze, admiring your well groomed property, and listening to the hummingbirds. We thank you so much for sharing this wonderful place with us.
All our best, Alyse & Eric

Liz Rumsey and Paul Gabel were joined in marriage with a ceremony on the dock. Many friends and family helped to celebrate the glorious day! The ring bearer, Nala, (their wirehaired fox terrier) stole the show when she carried their rings on her collar! God answered prayers by parting the rain clouds and pouring sunshine over everyone.

Liz, What more can be said, but you and cabin are 1st place. This was our first trip to the area and cabin, but it won’t be our last, Lord willing. Had lots of fun at Watkins Glen State Park, the winery, the Corning Glass Museum, and picking apples and raspberries at Reisinger’s farm. Too bad the time goes by so quickly! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, and your “new life” with Paul. Hope to meet more and bigger bass in the pond on our next trip. The pond was loads of fun. Take care, and hope to see you again soon!

Liz, This is a wonderful place! We really enjoyed the solitude, and the stars at night from the hot tub were wonderful. (Jupiter & the Milky Way really put on a show!) I (John) had a great time with a fly rod on the pond and a 16-inch large mouth on a 4-wt rod will give you a tussle to remember. Most of all Sandy and I got to spend time together as a couple in a quiet, delightful place. Thank you and may the Lord Bless.

Liz,
You truly have a “piece of heaven” here!  We enjoyed our weekend greatly!  And even though we had some power “issues,” you made it worth our while.  You make everything so cozy and peaceful.  We couldn’t have asked for a better hostess.  That is an awesome hill for sleigh riding!! Takes your breath away! We thank you for everything and hope to be back in the future.

Liz & Nala,
The moment we walked in the door, we felt at home. We had a great weekend here.  The calm and peace this place has, makes one feel so relaxed.  We enjoyed the hot tub and the view out our door. Our best adventure from this weekend was getting here.  As we pulled down the dirty and stone road we knew we were home when we pulled up.  Thank you for all the wonderful hospitality.  This place is beyond amazing.

Liz,
Thank you so much for sharing your “little piece of heaven” with us.  Although we could not enjoy the outdoors as much as we would have liked, the cabin offered a cozy and peaceful retreat from the continuous rain in which to celebrate our14th anniversary!  Thank you for the use of the umbrella so that we could use the hot tub.  It was so relaxing and exactly what we needed to unwind.  We will definitely be back, next time with the kids.  I’m sure they will enjoy their time spent here as much se we did!  Thanks so much for your gracious hospitality!

Dear Liz,
Thanks so much for having us into your home. We truly enjoyed every minute.  In case we don’t see you before we leave, we caught about two dozen fish Saturday and enjoyed our day just hanging around your cabin.   Your time and hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, and we hope that whatever you decide to do works out for you.  We had a great anniversary.
Thanks so much

Dear Liz,
As always, this cabin and your kindness have been a real blessing for us.  This is a healing place.  And we promise that the next time Mr. Tom Turkey fans his tail feathers in your front yard, we will take a picture!
We missed seeing Bernice the tortoise this time, because Tanglewood Nature Center was closed on Monday, but we had a great hike there.  Also, happy trails in Buttermilk Falls, Swedish Hill, Rock Stream Vineyards, Van Loen Hill (Finger Lakes Trail), Watkins Glen, and the Van Etten cemetery.  Good restaurant find:  The Decoy in Rock Stream.
Thanks so much, and may God bless you and the irrepressible Nala!

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for our hospitality and thoughtfulness.  We did not expect Eric to have the flu on the first stop of our road trip honeymoon, so your caring concern, advice and chicken broth helped him to get better just in time for us to enjoy Watkins Glen and the surrounding beauty of this area. The house is gorgeous, the hot tub is sooooo relaxing, and the view from here is fabulous!  We will definitely recommend High Country Acres to our friends, and families, and hopefully we will come back as well!

Liz,
The cabin is as advertised, and more!  Ben and I had a wonderful, relaxing time here for our honeymoon. The cabin’s kitchen is nicely equipped (a boon for a cooking hobbyist like me!) and the hot tub was wonderful after a day of hiking on Wednesday.  Thank you so much for your tip on Taughannock Falls.  We also visited Watkins Glen falls, Cornell Plantations, & Ornithology Lab today (Friday), and plan Robert H. Treman Park & Buttermilk Falls.  This area is “gorges”!  Thank you for your hospitality and the beet greens, too!  We intend to return some day.  We wish you the best.

Just as advertised! Beautiful, peaceful, and a wonderful place to spend our 32nd anniversary. Randy could show me where he worked, and then we could return to the peace of the cabin, the relaxation of the hot tub and the quiet after a busy day.
In spite of rain, we were able to tour the wineries and pick up some things for home.  Never did get to the falls.  Italian American Fest completely backed up Watkins Glen.  So we will have to return!!  Thank you for the wine and goodies and of course the fresh produce from the garden.

I am so thankful that my sister recommended your beautiful cabin for a little get-a-way before the school year starts.  Your hospitality is truly appreciated, as you have made the cabin a special place.  We enjoyed our walk through the trails and around the pond.  Our dinners prepared on the grill and relaxing nights in the hot tub watching the stars fill the sky are truly memorable.  Thanks for the gift of wine for my sister and I.  You go above and beyond.  I will be sharing pictures and memories with all my friends.  Hope to see you again.  We didn’t get a chance to fish!

Liz,
We enjoyed our time here in the high country hills. It was very convenient to the cities we wanted to explore—Ithaca, Corning, & Elmira.  It was wonderful to come back each evening to your quaint & comfortable cabin.  We used the kitchen for a meal or two every day & saved a lot of money over staying in a hotel & eating out.  Thanks for being so accommodating for our 2 young children.  They had a blast & really enjoyed fishing in the pond & using the paddleboat.  Robert & I enjoyed looking at the Milky Way from the hot tub! This is the first time I’ve seen an owl in the wild!

What a blessing our time at H.C.A. has been!  Psalm 23 flows through my thoughts…thank you for granting the Lord use of your green meadows and still waters.  It has been just what my soul needed.  The beauty of our surroundings and the time together has been a delight for us as a family.  The tails, the fishing, swimming, boating, horseshoes, family games, popcorn, pancake breakfasts, hot tub times…all a part of an incredible family retreat.  We have loved and appreciated our time here and all that you pour into this endeavor of yourself.  Nala was a gift to the kids, especially as they missed their dogs.  May God richly bless you and all those who come to enjoy High Country Acres.

I loved it here, but I missed my dog Kecko.  Nala is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet! (here, if you have a dog)!  The trails were awesome and so were the pond and the hot tub.  The fishing was good for my brother and my dad.  I caught nothing.  I’ll miss this place very much.  It was very peaceful.  We all enjoyed the horseshoe pit.  It was loads of fun. Thanks so much.

Dear Liz,
This place is just a slice of heaven.  Al and I had such a wonderful time. The cabin was beautiful; the bed and the hot tub were amazing.  It was so great that we were able to do so many things, because the weather was beautiful every day.  We never wanted to leave. The only thing that made it easy to leave was that the sun was not shining that day.  The location of the cabin is great since we were able to see everything we wanted in a short amount of drive time.  You are such a wonderful person for sharing with the world what you have here, and you really have your stuff together.  We didn’t need a thing.  Thanks again, and good luck and best wishes with Paul.   Al and I will be back.

Psalm 19 says that the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.  Truly this place portrays a piece of heaven and the glory of God.  Seeing the snow, the magnificence of this location, the pond, the woods, and the beauty of this place is amazing.  God has truly given you the gift of hospitality.  We will certainly be back and can’t wait to share with others how serene this place is.  Thank you for making our 19th wedding anniversary such a memorable occasion.

As always we had a wonderful time at your peaceful cabin. Thanks so much for letting us share this special place with you. Thanks for the birthday card and wine, and for letting us “borrow” your sweet dog. Favorite hike this time—Watkins Glen. Treman Park also great--do the whole 4.5 mile loop if you want a good workout! And go see Havana Glen in Montour Falls--beautiful! Saw turkeys every day on this trip. And heard the hermit thrush every day, too. We’ll be back next year (if not before!).

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for blessing us with our stay at High Country Acres. It made our 8 yr. wedding anniversary extremely special. It was so much fun to wake up and do nothing but enjoy the quiet atmosphere with Melanie. Your hospitality far exceeds most hotels we have been in, and it adds something unique that you don’t find in most places. The wine and the card were fabulous. You are a wonderful lady and we count a real privilege to know you and Paul!

Thanks for all your kindness during our week at your cabin. As you remember the first part was a little stressful with Bob being sick, but you made me feel at home and cared for. We will be back to fully enjoy your beautiful surroundings. The peace and quiet and the beautiful starlit nights are something I will remember. Liz,
God has truly blessed you with this piece of Heaven. It has been so serine and peaceful here this week. Enjoyed the fishing, grilling, s’mores, and no rain (at the cabin) the entire week. My most memorable experience was sitting on the front porch our last evening, reading a book written by a woman from our hometown. A female hummer came to feed at the feeder, then proceeded to hover right in front of my face and book. She fluttered off a little and came back several times. Finally realized she was attracted to the bright red jacket of the book. So amazing; that was the closest view I’d ever had of a hummer. Also we enjoyed the fishing; Howard spoiled the bass with deli ham. Would love to come back. Recommend for others to spend time at the cabin! Watkins Glen is a must see. National Souring Museum was great (also seeing planes with gliders taking off and landing.) Corning Museum of Glass was awesome (be prepared for a lot of walking). Last, but definitely not least, Nala is such a joy. What a sweetheart she is; showed up every day for a backrub. We enjoyed her so much. Liz, you are an awesome hostess and we appreciate all the thoughtful and useful items you offer in the cabin. Thanks for sharing your rafting pics of the Grand Canyon. We share a common interest there.

Dear Liz,
When we first realized that Samara would be attending my alma mater, Cornell, we wondered how we would ever find a place to stay that would make us feel at home.  We knew we wanted to experience the Lake Region and not feel as if we were tourists.  Never, ever, did it cross our minds that we would find heaven on the Internet, but we did!

Yakira, our fourteen year old found the joys of Hemingway here while she read Farewell to Arms.   We all finished at least 2 books—what a relaxing luxury!

Your place is so serene and so peaceful and you are a most remarkable woman, so full of love and so very interesting.  We will hope to be back as we come to see Samara to Cornell for the next 4 years—a wonderful break from all the craziness of life.

Our best to you in all you do. Thanks for everything.

So, what can one say that hasn’t already been said?  We agree with all the great comments—this place is indeed a “slice of heaven.” We enjoyed our week’s stay & thank Liz, our “hostess with the “mostest” for all she did in making our stay memorable.  If you want to get away from all the hustle & bustle of life, this is the place for you!  A beautiful log cabin, well-equipped, well stocked to the smallest detail, and as cozy as it can be.  We shall return and in the meantime will share our cherished memories with friends & family.

Best wishes, Liz, in whatever your future holds.  And, thank you & Nala for giving us such a remarkable & rejuvenating vacation.

Good Morning Liz,
After waking up, the past two mornings to clouds, mist, & rain, this morning was a beautiful cloudless blue-sky morning.  With that said, we just accepted the off & on rain with the thought that “every day we are blessed with, has a beauty of its own.”
We had another week here of relaxation, and soaking in God’s wonderful creation.  What beauty and peacefulness.  We took 2 days to drive around the lakes and explore numerous wineries.  The view, wine and fantastic lunch at Bully Hill was GREAT. The Rockwell Museum was very interesting also.  Of course, we walked (again) the Watkins’s Glen--absolutely as beautiful this time as it was last year (a must see).  The Robert Treman State Park (with the Lucas Falls) was absolutely fantastic (another must see) and the Buttermilk Falls were beautiful.  We found several Farmer’s Markets and the Pumpkin Festival in Hammondsport a fun day (set with the locals in town square & listened to some good Bluegrass—the simple pleasures of life are priceless—and good memories.  The hot tub was great on those chilly (cold!) nights-the stars were so beautiful.

Thanks, Liz.  We appreciate having such a place to come to.  This too is priceless.
Be blessed,

Thank you so much for your kind hospitality & for sharing this beautiful place with us.  We had a fantastic vacation!  For once, we timed the fall leaves perfectly!  There was so much to see & do in the area:  Watkins Glen, Iron Kettle Farm Corn Maze, The Science Center, The Windmill Market, & the many wineries.  (I think we may need a vacation from our vacation!) We are sad to be leaving without having had time to relax a little more at the cabin.  Maybe next time.  You have definitely made quite an impression on Adam. (age 4).  He wants to stay here “ a hundred more days”!  We will hold fond memories of this vacation forever!

P.S. Adam left his picture of his cabin vacation for you.  Didn’t get a chance to write a story.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful time!  My husband & I really needed the time away from the kids and life in general and this place fit the bill perfectly.  Watkins Glen & Bully Hill were our favorite places to visit, but just relaxing here was what we really enjoyed the most.  This was our first time in the area and I was very impressed with the fun things to do and the great wines to be tasted.  We hope to visit again in the future.  You were wonderful and generous.  Good things happen to good people.  We will pray that all the house stuff works out in your favor!

Liz,
Thank you so much for all of your generous hospitality.  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving retreat and are now “ready and recharged” for a while.  (that is if we can bring ourselves to leave the hill).  You truly have a beautiful home.  It truly is a bit of heaven that you and your husband have created here.  Thanks so much for sharing it.  We hope to be back soon and can’t wait to tell others about this amazing escape!

God works in mysterious ways. Who could have guessed that our quilt weekend would become a time to reconnect with a mutual friend. You kept the surprise so secret and what a wonderful time we had!! Getting to visit with Linda was precious to each of us. We enjoyed the hospitality of getting away to the beautiful woods to be with friends and create quilts. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Dear Liz,
We are so thankful the Lord led us to rent your place and to meet you! This place provided the exact thing we needed, a quiet retreat with plenty of time to rest, reflect, and be refreshed. This was the perfect place for us and God knew it. I looked at dozens and dozens of places online but kept coming back to High Country Acres. So glad we got to be here and we enjoyed the solitude, the birds, the two turkeys, the stormy weather, the full moon, and the warmth of yesterday! Thank you!

Dear Liz,
I sit here on the porch glider, under the protective roof during a gentle rain, my loyal pooch lying on the deck beside me. Wonderful view – spring colors and a slight mist – the woodland sounds: the woodpecker’s knocking occasionally in the distance, jays calling, and assorted chirping all about – and the gentle patter of raindrops overhead. Karin, Frieda, and I have truly enjoyed our visit here. Ah, there goes the woodpecker again – I wonder, could it be elusive ivory bill that Cornell ornithologists are pursuing in Arkansas marshland? Right here, practically in their own back yard?! Nah – no “double knock” – but a promising thought.
Peace & goodwill,

We really enjoyed meeting and you Nala, and we loved the cabin. We’re already trying to figure out when we might come back. It’s quiet here in a way that it is never quiet in New Jersey. We encourage others to enjoy the beautiful waterfalls at Fillmore Glen, Treman State Park and Buttermilk Falls. We also saw a great view from the top of the hill at Newtown Battlefield State Park.
Thanks for the hospitality – I’m sure we’ll be seeing you again!

Hi Liz,
We truly enjoyed stating at your super clean and well-maintained cabin. The setting is picture perfect. I wish we had time to just relax, swim, hike, etc. Perhaps another time! Your cabin was great for our stay while preparing for our daughter’s wedding! We appreciate your thoughtfulness, especially the ironing board when we really needed it!
I also love the 300 count sheets on the bed… sooo soft!! Lots of luck on this venture. I think it was a smart move on your part. What a great way to meet so many wonderful people!

Thanks for another delightful week – from the five gobblers marching up the lawn on the first morning to the Twain attractions in Elmira and shopping in Corning, to the nearby state and county parks and forests. And for the beautiful, tranquil vistas from the cabin; pineapple slicing lessons; watermelon; hospitality for Frieda; suggestions of back roads providing shortcuts to our touring destinations; engaging conversations. In short, we appreciated your generosity and warmth in sharing your exquisite homestead and neighboring area with us. Thanks again for providing us with all of the ingredients for a relaxing, quiet, and memorable vacation!

Our expectations were met completely. Fishing, hiking, peace and a beautiful cabin. Thanks for your forethought and planning all that is needed to feel homey. This will be Olivia’s greatest vacation. She went to bed every night tired and satisfied. She enjoyed Nala’s company and the swims in the pond could not be topped.

Liz,
As we prepare to leave, we are finding ourselves sad to say goodbye to this wonderful place! It is truly a peace of heaven. This cabin and High Country Acres exceeded our expectations. The website doesn’t come close to capturing all that this beautiful property has to offer. We had such an amazing week here. The serene peace of sitting on the dock and finishing a great book to evenings having a grilled dinner on the back porch. We were please to have Nala as our guest for our final supper. Dave and Gabe had such a wonderful time fishing. I wish you could have seen the look on Gabe’s face when he caught his 1st fish. Quite a feat for a 2 year old. We’ll miss the buzzing of the hummingbirds and the peaceful sound of the rain, the quiet mornings and calm evenings. Thank you for making this truly a home away from home. Your attention to even the smallest of details and your warm hospitality truly makes this place unlike any that we’ve stayed at. I wish you much success and many, many wonderful days and evenings with guests to share your little peace of heaven. We hope to join you and Nala again, and are sorry that we didn’t have a chance to spend a bit more time with you!
Our warmest wishes,
Tina, David & Gabriel

P.S. Thank you so much for the fruit salad and zucchini bread. We are looking forward to enjoying these treats on our way home.

7/29-8/5/06
Liz,
It is never easy to leave after such a wonderful restful time. The Internet honestly did no justice to the beauty of this cabin. It is just amazing how all the decorations were exactly as I would have chosen. Even down to the smallest detail of the books, they were totally awesome. I especially enjoyed How to Simplify. It was wonderful having fresh herbs for cooking! Nala is such a sweetheart. I only wish the weather would have been a little cooler so we could have spent more time outside with her. We enjoyed the zucchini bread and fruit for breakfast and look forward to having the rest tomorrow morning for breakfast to remember this wonderful week. This is truly your gift as being a wonderful hostess and the gift of hospitality is what God has blessed you with. Thank you again!

What an adventure our vacation was! We can’t thank you enough for your graciousness and hospitality. We loved the lakes, wineries, and delicious restaurants (Moosewood Café, Simeon’s on the Commons, and Ports Café). Most of all though, we will remember your kindness. We wish you continued success!

Dear Liz,
We enjoyed every minute of our stay here. The cabin is lovely with everything provided for and so clean. We especially appreciated that after being on the road for so long. We loved sitting on the front porch and looking out at the pond. Thanks for all your help with directions and taking us to pick blueberries. We want to come back and please stay in touch.

This place is more beautiful than any picture can tell you. We all had a wonderful time. Thanks for going above and beyond helping us out with everything. I had a great day at the fair. This will be a time and place we will remember forever. Keep on doing what you do. It’s great.

The first feints of Autumn
Lighten the Leaves
The cicadas’ ceaseless sound
Like the humming of overhead cables
But a pattern of music
Where each time, every variation in pitch
Merges in melody
The faint tip tap of rain
A constant, complex beat
Varying pace of rhythm
Dampening down the dust of summer
Its cleansing properties
Provide a picture of calm
Thank you Liz, you have a really beautiful place here and we have had a fantastic honeymoon. It has been a great place to relax after a busy couple of weeks. To anyone else who comes here I would recommend the Moosewood Restaurant at Treman State Park (both in Ithaca). The latter if you want to have a slightly longer walk than the other parks. The peacefulness and tranquility we have found here is exactly what we were looking for… and the fresh vegetables were amazing! We will definitely take this beautiful experience in our hearts as we start our life together. Thank you for everything!

Thank you for a beautiful 1st anniversary! We had the greatest time hiking and wine tasting and most of all relaxing! We will be recommending this to other people and will definitely be returning next year. I wish we could have stayed longer. Next year you can hopefully join us on our hike to Taughannock Falls. We only walked part way this trip, but next year… Again, thank you for a wonderful time. We appreciate your hospitality and kindness and look forward to next year.

Hello Liz,
I could write the same thing, using the same adjectives, i.e., serene, peaceful, beautiful, awesome, comfortable, friendly, great hostess, home away from home, warm and clean accommodations, etc., as everyone has said about this cabin at High County Acres and it’s “gem” of an owner – I could and did, because its all true! We have been to many places in our wonderful USA, many hotels, motels, B&B’s, and condos and this place ranks in our top places to return to. That is why we have already made reservations for another week in 2007 (same week of October). The hills with the fall colors are really breathtaking. We believe the Lord opened His paint palette and brushed this area with colors only He could display. The drive around Seneca Lake and visiting the wineries was very enjoyable. The Castel Grisch Winery has a great view from their patio and a very good stop for lunch and dessert. Yum. Watkins Glen State Park should not be missed – absolutely one of the most awesome hikes anywhere! (Wear rubber soled shoes/boots) For a die-heart, or even one that slightly enjoys baseball, go to Cooperstown. The museum and the town are very enjoyable. The town has such ‘quaint and homey’ feel. The Corning Glass museum was incredible and the Historical Street in Corning is a GREAT place to shop. Eat at Aniellos Pizza if you are in the mood for absolutely fantastic pizza! The drive around Cayuga Lake stopping at wineries and then driving to the little town of Skaneateles about 15 miles further east of the west side of the lake was fun. Nice town and super fish at Doug’s. Today (day before we head home) is just a lazy around the cabin most of the day. Our stay has been sooo relaxing and a time to get back to the simple things and way of life. The sights, nature, kicking back and relaxing with a good glass of wine and concentrating on each other – we’re ready to start on another 46 years.
If the lord is willing, we will be back next year to experience another near perfect week. (And to see pictures of your new member of your family). Have a blessed winter and thanks for sharing your wonderful little part of heaven-on-earth.

Liz,
Thank you so much for sharing your little space of heaven with us. It is so peaceful and awesome here. What a perfect place to celebrate our 35th anniversary. Also thank you for putting it on the Internet so our daughter and her boyfriend could find it. We are so grateful that Alicia found you and thank you for all you helped her do to make our anniversary very special. You can bet we will be back, only in the summer where I can see your hummingbirds. You are an angel in every way for wanting to share this.

Dear Grandma,
It was fun sleeping at the cabin. We read “The Dog Who Cried Wolf” and sang our favorite songs. The wind howled, but Nala guarded us. In the morning it snowed. We want to stay again.

Liz,
Mike and I had a wonderful time this trip. We’ll definitely tell Steve that his recommendation was well worth every penny we spent. Your suggestions were wonderful as well. The wine was an added touch that made our stay more personal. Mike wanted to tell you he has “cabin fever”. If someone needs a GREAT place to eat in Watkins Glen, Seneca Harbor Station is the place. It’s good food for a moderate price. The Corning Museum of Glass was a nice place to go, as well as The Wings of Eagles. Mike and I enjoyed ourselves at the Arnot Mall. We plan on coming again and staying longer than a few days. There’s so much to see and do. Hopefully we’ll be here earlier, when there aren’t snow showers, so we can use the grill. Thanks Liz, for all that you have done to make all of your past, present, and future guests have a wonderful time while they stay here. If people don’t enjoy themselves, then they don’t care for country peacefulness and God’s wonderful works.
God Bless You & Keep You,

12/14-17/06
Liz,
Thanks so much for making my 50th birthday really special. We did all new things this trip, and it was great to realize that there are still hikes to be hiked and eateries to be eaten at. Hikes: Finger Lakes Forest (Burnt Hill and Interlaken Trails), Tanglewood Nature Center (don’t miss Bernice the Tortoise), and on our first evening the hill to the side of the cabin. Eateries: The Loft (Candor) and Main St. Café (Spencer), DC Italian Deli and restaurant (Corning), and Harris Hill and the Soaring Museum. All of which was made really wonderful by your hospitality and the warmth you’ve shown us. We have been blessed to find you and your happy little cabin. I hope we will be able to return for many years to come.
If you are anywhere near Harris Hill, definitely go up to the top and view the view – it is not to be missed. We caught the tail end of a sunset there and it was magnificent. Also saw great views from the Tanglewood Nature Center, where one of the exhibits (Bernice the African Tortoise) had free reign to roam the hallways. What a great three days we’ve had here.
And don’t miss the stars on a clear night!
Merry Christmas,
Steve & Jean

This was just the winter weekend get-away that we were hoping for…even if Charlie grabbed the wrong pair of skis for me and we couldn’t go skiing. I guess we’ll just have to try again next winter…and I’ll make sure the right skis get packed! Best memories? The sparkling new fallen snow we enjoyed on our Sunday morning hike along your trails and the wine-soaked pears & cherries on pound cake with real whipped cream for dessert that night!! Best wishes for future success at High Country Acres.

Although I was a little apprehensive about this trip, since it was such a long drive, I have not stopped telling Don just how amazing your lovely place is. I can’t wait to get back & tell our girls about it. You should be extremely proud of your accomplishments. You are truly a dynamo. I would like you to consider adopting me as a sister. Dear Mom,
Thank you for such a memorable Labor Day weekend. Sharing laughs, stories, and beers around the campfire until 4:00am on Friday night; lounging on the dock all day Saturday; cooking out with friends & family; and lastly hiking & four wheeling the trails were all the perfect activities for an adventuresome, yet so relaxing mini vacation. But of course the best part is spending time with you. Bailey, Lexi, and Nala are so worn out they will probably sleep for a month—thank God as we depart back to Philly. You know our favorite place to come to wear out the dogs while getting a little R & R is High Country Acres. Until next time…

Hello!
Once again we had an incredible time with you again. The cabin looks better than ever. It was great fun hangin’ till 4am Friday night and swimming with the dogs 2 days in a row. Thanks Again,

Dear Liz,
I’m so glad my sister-in-law and mother-in-law are planning on coming in October. If Kim hadn’t told me, we wouldn’t have been blessed with your beautiful “High Country Acres” and with meeting you. We were so delighted with the cabin, the peacefulness, and seeing the wild life (7 turkeys & 7 deer so far!). (oops, and 1 cute dog named Nala. I just love the way she jumps). God has blessed you with a true gift of hospitality. We have truly enjoyed our visit and hope to return with our 3 children. Liz, you go above and beyond, which makes us so very thankful. We’ll be praying for continued success for you. You’ve done an awesome job and you should be proud because you’ve created an awesome haven!

This weekend was exactly what our family needed. What a beautiful retreat you have created! I know everyone who passes through here will leave rested and refreshed. The night sky, filled with brilliant stars was particularly spectacular to us. We pointed out Mars, the Milky Way and the Big Dipper to our fascinated girls. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place!

Liz,
Thank you for using the gifts God has blessed you with to bless others! Your gifts of hospitality, concern, and care—all things that let your guests know they are important to you, and that you want us to have the best stay possible. The blessing of your property, the peace & quiet, the spectacular beauty, the sights & sounds of the wildlife—all things that make a stay here relaxing and wonderful. We are glad our life’s journey brought us to this place. We pray for continued success and that God may continue to bless you with health, happiness, and family joy! Again, thanks for sharing your slice of heaven with us. Our expectations were exceeded. We will continue to recommend High Country Acres to those who cherish time ”away from it all.”
God Bless,

Dear Liz,
Once again, you have your cabin feel like ours. Although the weather was not too good, the peace, quiet, lovely scenery, and hospitality were great. We are already looking forward to our next visit. I will bring Nala some Canadian treats.

Liz,
Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us. We needed a break from our packing and cleaning (of our move). The kids love it, and collecting all your Ladybug friends. Can’t wait to come back for a longer stay. Thank you!

Dear Liz,
Waking up to the sun streaming through the windows, the cool breeze, and the smell of the fresh air was a welcomed retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. High Country Acres offered the chance for relaxation. Thanks for making the stay memorable, will be booking my next trip!

Dear Liz,
We had a wonderful time in your lovely cabin. W enjoyed the quiet, the peaceful pond (except for when the kids were splashing about and having fun!) Thank you for your warm hospitality and generous spirit. The kids are already talking about “when we come back.” The cobbler was delicious and we all love Nala! Wishing you the very best of luck and every success in your new business.

Dear Liz,
The rest of my vacation was quite enjoyable, but not nearly as relaxing as my week at your cabin. I miss lazing around on the dock with a good magazine, going for a refreshing swim in the pond, cooking dinner in the cabin, and being surprised with an occasional fruit salad or ice tea from a magnificent hostess. Memories of my week there will surely keep me energized as the semester begins in Budapest.
Unfortunately, we didn’t take any pictures when we were at your place. Oddly, considering that Shai and I are such good friends, we don’t even have a picture of us from some other splendid setting. Hopefully, we’ll be back there again…and we can take a photo then.
Hope you’re enjoying all of your visitors.
All the best,
Michael

Dear Liz,
We’ve had a wonderful week. Thank you for making us so welcome. We’ll never forget seeing the deer everyday and we looked forward to the “turkey trot” every morning. It’s been a relaxing time here at the cabin and we’ve enjoyed the opportunity to visit some of the local attractions such as the gorge at Watkins Glen and the Mark Twain sites at Elmira, to say nothing of the local wineries! We’ll have happy memories of High Country Acres when we are back in Canada and England. Thank you, Liz.

Liz,
The cabin is delightful. I was fun for me to get to know you. Your enthusiasm and generosity is heart warming. Thank you for going above and beyond and washing the girls’ jeans. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed when I saw Olivia’s muddy jeans and you came to the rescue! I want to come back and spend a whole day on the cabin porch reading. You are a strong, fun, and very accomplished person. Building High Country Acres is something to be very proud of.
