Dear Liz,
We enjoyed very much staying at your wonderful cabin. It is really a nice getaway, and your kindness, hospitality, attention to all needs of your guests make stay at your place so special. Our kids loved the place so much that they did not want to leave. We definitely think of coming back later this year and will tell our friends about the place.
Truly yours,

P. S. The water in your pond is really warm! You should advertise the opportunity to swim in April for crazy people like us.

Dear Liz,
Thank you for all your hospitality. Your having the cabin all decorated for Dave’s “40th”, the bottle of wine, and banana bread was delicious. It is so beautiful here. Your cabin is a very comfortable place to come and relax. The hot tub was great. The guys loved playing horseshoes. It was nice meeting your son and daughter, and your grandbaby is beautiful! We will be back again!

Liz,
We had a great stay in NY. Your cabin was exceptional. We were fully impressed with the cleanliness and with your hospitality. We hope to come again sometime, hopefully next year. We’d love to bring the boys with us and take them to the Watkins Glen hiking trail. They would have loved that. We’ll be in touch in the months ahead to possibly book a weekend next spring (probably would be after Memorial Day because of school).
Thanks again,

Liz,
As always we had a wonderful time at your peaceful cabin. Thanks so much for letting us share this special place with you. Thanks for the birthday card and wine, and for letting us “borrow” your sweet dog. Favorite hike this time—Watkins Glen. Treman Park also great--do the whole 4.5 mile loop if you want a good workout! And go see Havana Glen in Montour Falls--beautiful! Saw turkeys every day on this trip. And heard the hermit thrush every day, too. We’ll be back next year (if not before!).

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for blessing us with our stay at High Country Acres. It made our 8 yr. wedding anniversary extremely special. It was so much fun to wake up and do nothing but enjoy the quiet atmosphere with Melanie. Your hospitality far exceeds most hotels we have been in, and it adds something unique that you don’t find in most places. The wine and the card were fabulous. You are a wonderful lady and we count a real privilege to know you and Paul!
Blessings,
Roy and Melanie

Liz,
It’s great to stay in a place that’s away from it all, yet, the pleasures of the Finger Lakes region are still easily accessible. The cabin was wonderful and well stocked. The pond was clear and cool on a hot summer’s day. You were lovely and thought of everything.

Liz,
Thanks for all your kindness during our week at your cabin. As you remember the first part was a little stressful with Bob being sick, but you made me feel at home and cared for. We will be back to fully enjoy your beautiful surroundings. The peace and quiet and the beautiful starlit nights are something I will remember. Your hard work shows in the lovely pond, flower gardens, and most importantly in the cabin where anyone could feel comfortable and move right in. We will keep in touch and let you know about future trips to High Country Acres! The wine was great!

Liz,
God has truly blessed you with this piece of Heaven. It has been so serine and peaceful here this week. Enjoyed the fishing, grilling, s’mores, and no rain (at the cabin) the entire week. My most memorable experience was sitting on the front porch our last evening, reading a book written by a woman from our hometown. A female hummer came to feed at the feeder, then proceeded to hover right in front of my face and book. She fluttered off a little and came back several times. Finally realized she was attracted to the bright red jacket of the book. So amazing; that was the closest view I’d ever had of a hummer. Also we enjoyed the fishing; Howard spoiled the bass with deli ham. Would love to come back. Recommend for others to spend time at the cabin! Watkins Glen is a must see. National Souring Museum was great (also seeing planes with gliders taking off and landing.) Corning Museum of Glass was awesome (be prepared for a lot of walking). Last, but definitely not least, Nala is such a joy. What a sweetheart she is; showed up every day for a backrub. We enjoyed her so much. Liz, you are an awesome hostess and we appreciate all the thoughtful and useful items you offer in the cabin. Thanks for sharing your rafting pics of the Grand Canyon. We share a common interest there.

Dear Liz,
Thank you for your hospitality. We were impressed with this peaceful and cozy place, which really feels like home. It was such a pleasure to swim in the pond and play with Nalla for Julia. The only disappointment is weekend is too short. It was Canadian long weekend though! We wish we stay longer.

Dear Liz,
When we first realized that Samara would be attending my alma mater, Cornell, we wondered how we would ever find a place to stay that would make us feel at home.  We knew we wanted to experience the Lake Region and not feel as if we were tourists.  Never, ever, did it cross our minds that we would find heaven on the Internet, but we did!

Yakira, our fourteen year old found the joys of Hemingway here while she read Farewell to Arms.   We all finished at least 2 books—what a relaxing luxury!

Your place is so serene and so peaceful and you are a most remarkable woman, so full of love and so very interesting.  We will hope to be back as we come to see Samara to Cornell for the next 4 years—a wonderful break from all the craziness of life.

Our best to you in all you do. Thanks for everything
.
Much love,

We enjoyed our stay in your cabin.  It was like “home away from home” for us.  The hot tub was great after spending the day on the motorcycle.  It was nice and quiet, just the way we like it!  We will be back so we can try the paddleboat on the pond.  Thanks for making our first “motorcycle weekend” a success.

Liz,
So, what can one say that hasn’t already been said?  We agree with all the great comments—this place is indeed a “slice of heaven.” We enjoyed our week’s stay & thank Liz, our “hostess with the “mostest” for all she did in making our stay memorable.  If you want to get away from all the hustle & bustle of life, this is the place for you!  A beautiful log cabin, well-equipped, well stocked to the smallest detail, and as cozy as it can be.  We shall return and in the meantime will share our cherished memories with friends & family.

Best wishes, Liz, in whatever your future holds.  And, thank you & Nala for giving us such a remarkable & rejuvenating vacation.

Good Morning Liz,
After waking up, the past two mornings to clouds, mist, & rain, this morning was a beautiful cloudless blue-sky morning.  With that said, we just accepted the off & on rain with the thought that “every day we are blessed with, has a beauty of its own.”
We had another week here of relaxation, and soaking in God’s wonderful creation.  What beauty and peacefulness.  We took 2 days to drive around the lakes and explore numerous wineries.  The view, wine and fantastic lunch at Bully Hill was GREAT. The Rockwell Museum was very interesting also.  Of course, we walked (again) the Watkins’s Glen--absolutely as beautiful this time as it was last year (a must see).  The Robert Treman State Park (with the Lucas Falls) was absolutely fantastic (another must see) and the Buttermilk Falls were beautiful.  We found several Farmer’s Markets and the Pumpkin Festival in Hammondsport a fun day (set with the locals in town square & listened to some good Bluegrass—the simple pleasures of life are priceless—and good memories.  The hot tub was great on those chilly (cold!) nights-the stars were so beautiful.

Thanks, Liz.  We appreciate having such a place to come to.  This too is priceless.
Be blessed,

Liz,
Thank you so much for your kind hospitality & for sharing this beautiful place with us.  We had a fantastic vacation!  For once, we timed the fall leaves perfectly!  There was so much to see & do in the area:  Watkins Glen, Iron Kettle Farm Corn Maze, The Science Center, The Windmill Market, & the many wineries.  (I think we may need a vacation from our vacation!) We are sad to be leaving without having had time to relax a little more at the cabin.  Maybe next time.  You have definitely made quite an impression on Adam. (age 4).  He wants to stay here “ a hundred more days”!  We will hold fond memories of this vacation forever!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful time!  My husband & I really needed the time away from the kids and life in general and this place fit the bill perfectly.  Watkins Glen & Bully Hill were our favorite places to visit, but just relaxing here was what we really enjoyed the most.  This was our first time in the area and I was very impressed with the fun things to do and the great wines to be tasted.  We hope to visit again in the future.  You were wonderful and generous.  Good things happen to good people.  We will pray that all the house stuff works out in your favor!

God works in mysterious ways. Who could have guessed that our quilt weekend would become a time to reconnect with a mutual friend. You kept the surprise so secret and what a wonderful time we had!! Dear Liz,
We are so thankful the Lord led us to rent your place and to meet you! This place provided the exact thing we needed, a quiet retreat with plenty of time to rest, reflect, and be refreshed. This was the perfect place for us and God knew it. I looked at dozens and dozens of places online but kept coming back to High Country Acres. So glad we got to be here and we enjoyed the solitude, the birds, the two turkeys, the stormy weather, the full moon, and the warmth of yesterday! Thank you!

Dear Liz,
I sit here on the porch glider, under the protective roof during a gentle rain, my loyal pooch lying on the deck beside me. Wonderful view – spring colors and a slight mist – the woodland sounds: the woodpecker’s knocking occasionally in the distance, jays calling, and assorted chirping all about – and the gentle patter of raindrops overhead. Karin, Frieda, and I have truly enjoyed our visit here. Ah, there goes the woodpecker again – I wonder, could it be elusive ivory bill that Cornell ornithologists are pursuing in Arkansas marshland? Right here, practically in their own back yard?! Nah – no “double knock” – but a promising thought.
Peace & goodwill,

We really enjoyed meeting and you Nala, and we loved the cabin. We’re already trying to figure out when we might come back. It’s quiet here in a way that it is never quiet in New Jersey. We encourage others to enjoy the beautiful waterfalls at Fillmore Glen, Treman State Park and Buttermilk Falls. We also saw a great view from the top of the hill at Newtown Battlefield State Park.
Thanks for the hospitality – I’m sure we’ll be seeing you again!

Hi Liz,
We truly enjoyed stating at your super clean and well-maintained cabin. The setting is picture perfect. I wish we had time to just relax, swim, hike, etc. Perhaps another time! Your cabin was great for our stay while preparing for our daughter’s wedding! We appreciate your thoughtfulness, especially the ironing board when we really needed it!
I also love the 300 count sheets on the bed… sooo soft!! Lots of luck on this venture. I think it was a smart move on your part. What a great way to meet so many wonderful people!

Thanks for another delightful week – from the five gobblers marching up the lawn on the first morning to the Twain attractions in Elmira and shopping in Corning, to the nearby state and county parks and forests. And for the beautiful, tranquil vistas from the cabin; pineapple slicing lessons; watermelon; hospitality for Frieda; suggestions of back roads providing shortcuts to our touring destinations; engaging conversations. In short, we appreciated your generosity and warmth in sharing your exquisite homestead and neighboring area with us. Thanks again for providing us with all of the ingredients for a relaxing, quiet, and memorable vacation!

Our expectations were met completely. Fishing, hiking, peace and a beautiful cabin. Thanks for your forethought and planning all that is needed to feel homey. This will be Olivia’s greatest vacation. Liz,
As we prepare to leave, we are finding ourselves sad to say goodbye to this wonderful place! It is truly a peace of heaven. This cabin and High Country Acres exceeded our expectations. The website doesn’t come close to capturing all that this beautiful property has to offer. We had such an amazing week here. The serene peace of sitting on the dock and finishing a great book to evenings having a grilled dinner on the back porch. We were please to have Nala as our guest for our final supper. Dave and Gabe had such a wonderful time fishing. I wish you could have seen the look on Gabe’s face when he caught his 1st fish. Quite a feat for a 2 year old. We’ll miss the buzzing of the hummingbirds and the peaceful sound of the rain, the quiet mornings and calm evenings. Thank you for making this truly a home away from home. Your attention to even the smallest of details and your warm hospitality truly makes this place unlike any that we’ve stayed at. I wish you much success and many, many wonderful days and evenings with guests to share your little peace of heaven. We hope to join you and Nala again, and are sorry that we didn’t have a chance to spend a bit more time with you!
Our warmest wishes,

P.S. Thank you so much for the fruit salad and zucchini bread. We are looking forward to enjoying these treats on our way home.

Liz,
It is never easy to leave after such a wonderful restful time. The Internet honestly did no justice to the beauty of this cabin. It is just amazing how all the decorations were exactly as I would have chosen. Even down to the smallest detail of the books, they were totally awesome. I especially enjoyed How to Simplify. It was wonderful having fresh herbs for cooking! Nala is such a sweetheart. I only wish the weather would have been a little cooler so we could have spent more time outside with her. We enjoyed the zucchini bread and fruit for breakfast and look forward to having the rest tomorrow morning for breakfast to remember this wonderful week. This is truly your gift as being a wonderful hostess and the gift of hospitality is what God has blessed you with. Thank you again!

The first feints of Autumn
Lighten the Leaves
The cicadas’ ceaseless sound
Like the humming of overhead cables
But a pattern of music
Where each time, every variation in pitch
Merges in melody
The faint tip tap of rain
A constant, complex beat
Varying pace of rhythm
Dampening down the dust of summer
Its cleansing properties
Provide a picture of calm
Thank you Liz, you have a really beautiful place here and we have had a fantastic honeymoon. It has been a great place to relax after a busy couple of weeks. To anyone else who comes here I would recommend the Moosewood Restaurant at Treman State Park (both in Ithaca). The latter if you want to have a slightly longer walk than the other parks. The peacefulness and tranquility we have found here is exactly what we were looking for… and the fresh vegetables were amazing! We will definitely take this beautiful experience in our hearts as we start our life together. Thank you for everything

Hello Liz,
I could write the same thing, using the same adjectives, i.e., serene, peaceful, beautiful, awesome, comfortable, friendly, great hostess, home away from home, warm and clean accommodations, etc., as everyone has said about this cabin at High County Acres and it’s “gem” of an owner – I could and did, because its all true! We have been to many places in our wonderful USA, many hotels, motels, B&B’s, and condos and this place ranks in our top places to return to. That is why we have already made reservations for another week in 2007 (same week of October). The hills with the fall colors are really breathtaking. We believe the Lord opened His paint palette and brushed this area with colors only He could display. The drive around Seneca Lake and visiting the wineries was very enjoyable. The Castel Grisch Winery has a great view from their patio and a very good stop for lunch and dessert. Yum. Watkins Glen State Park should not be missed – absolutely one of the most awesome hikes anywhere! (Wear rubber soled shoes/boots) For a die-heart, or even one that slightly enjoys baseball, go to Cooperstown. The museum and the town are very enjoyable. The town has such ‘quaint and homey’ feel. The Corning Glass museum was incredible and the Historical Street in Corning is a GREAT place to shop. Eat at Aniellos Pizza if you are in the mood for absolutely fantastic pizza! The drive around Cayuga Lake stopping at wineries and then driving to the little town of Skaneateles about 15 miles further east of the west side of the lake was fun. Nice town and super fish at Doug’s. Today (day before we head home) is just a lazy around the cabin most of the day. Our stay has been sooo relaxing and a time to get back to the simple things and way of life. The sights, nature, kicking back and relaxing with a good glass of wine and concentrating on each other – we’re ready to start on another 46 years.
If the lord is willing, we will be back next year to experience another near perfect week. (And to see pictures of your new member of your family). Have a blessed winter and thanks for sharing your wonderful little part of heaven-on-earth.

Liz,
Thank you so much for sharing your little space of heaven with us. It is so peaceful and awesome here. What a perfect place to celebrate our 35th anniversary. Also thank you for putting it on the Internet so our daughter and her boyfriend could find it. We are so grateful that Alicia found you and thank you for all you helped her do to make our anniversary very special. You can bet we will be back, only in the summer where I can see your hummingbirds. You are an angel in every way for wanting to share this.

Dear Grandma,
It was fun sleeping at the cabin. We read “The Dog Who Cried Wolf” and sang our favorite songs. The wind howled, but Nala guarded us. In the morning it snowed. We want to stay again.

Liz,
Mike and I had a wonderful time this trip. We’ll definitely tell Steve that his recommendation was well worth every penny we spent. Your suggestions were wonderful as well. The wine was an added touch that made our stay more personal. Mike wanted to tell you he has “cabin fever”. If someone needs a GREAT place to eat in Watkins Glen, Seneca Harbor Station is the place. It’s good food for a moderate price. The Corning Museum of Glass was a nice place to go, as well as The Wings of Eagles. Mike and I enjoyed ourselves at the Arnot Mall. We plan on coming again and staying longer than a few days. There’s so much to see and do. Hopefully we’ll be here earlier, when there aren’t snow showers, so we can use the grill. Thanks Liz, for all that you have done to make all of your past, present, and future guests have a wonderful time while they stay here. If people don’t enjoy themselves, then they don’t care for country peacefulness and God’s wonderful works.
God Bless You & Keep You,

Liz,
Thanks so much for making my 50th birthday really special. We did all new things this trip, and it was great to realize that there are still hikes to be hiked and eateries to be eaten at. Hikes: Finger Lakes Forest (Burnt Hill and Interlaken Trails), Tanglewood Nature Center (don’t miss Bernice the Tortoise), and on our first evening the hill to the side of the cabin. Eateries: The Loft (Candor) and Main St. Café (Spencer), DC Italian Deli and restaurant (Corning), and Harris Hill and the Soaring Museum. All of which was made really wonderful by your hospitality and the warmth you’ve shown us. We have been blessed to find you and your happy little cabin. I hope we will be able to return for many years to come.
If you are anywhere near Harris Hill, definitely go up to the top and view the view – it is not to be missed. We caught the tail end of a sunset there and it was magnificent. Also saw great views from the Tanglewood Nature Center, where one of the exhibits (Bernice the African Tortoise) had free reign to roam the hallways. What a great three days we’ve had here.
And don’t miss the stars on a clear night!

Merry Christmas,

Dear Liz,
Waking up to the sun streaming through the windows, the cool breeze, and the smell of the fresh air was a welcomed retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. High Country Acres offered the chance for relaxation. Thanks for making the stay memorable, will be booking my next trip!

Dear Liz,
We had a wonderful time in your lovely cabin. W enjoyed the quiet, the peaceful pond (except for when the kids were splashing about and having fun!) Thank you for your warm hospitality and generous spirit. The kids are already talking about “when we come back.” The cobbler was delicious and we all love Nala! Wishing you the very best of luck and every success in your new business.

Dear Liz,
The rest of my vacation was quite enjoyable, but not nearly as relaxing as my week at your cabin. I miss lazing around on the dock with a good magazine, going for a refreshing swim in the pond, cooking dinner in the cabin, and being surprised with an occasional fruit salad or ice tea from a magnificent hostess. Memories of my week there will surely keep me energized as the semester begins in Budapest.
Unfortunately, we didn’t take any pictures when we were at your place. Oddly, considering that Shai and I are such good friends, we don’t even have a picture of us from some other splendid setting. Hopefully, we’ll be back there again…and we can take a photo then.
Hope you’re enjoying all of your visitors.

All the best,
Michael

Dear Liz,
We’ve had a wonderful week. Thank you for making us so welcome. We’ll never forget seeing the deer everyday and we looked forward to the “turkey trot” every morning. It’s been a relaxing time here at the cabin and we’ve enjoyed the opportunity to visit some of the local attractions such as the gorge at Watkins Glen and the Mark Twain sites at Elmira, to say nothing of the local wineries! We’ll have happy memories of High Country Acres when we are back in Canada and England. Thank you, Liz.

Liz,
The cabin is delightful. I was fun for me to get to know you. Your enthusiasm and generosity is heart warming. Thank you for going above and beyond and washing the girls’ jeans. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed when I saw Olivia’s muddy jeans and you came to the rescue! I want to come back and spend a whole day on the cabin porch reading. You are a strong, fun, and very accomplished person. Building High Country Acres is something to be very proud of.

Liz,
This was just the winter weekend get-away that we were hoping for…even if Charlie grabbed the wrong pair of skis for me and we couldn’t go skiing. I guess we’ll just have to try again next winter…and I’ll make sure the right skis get packed! Best memories? The sparkling new fallen snow we enjoyed on our Sunday morning hike along your trails and the wine-soaked pears & cherries on pound cake with real whipped cream for dessert that night!! Best wishes for future success at High Country Acres.

We had a wonderful family get-away. It was great to get far away from the city lights and experience the peaceful beauty of nature. I enjoyed the pure stillness when we were outside, total quiet. We will definitely spread the word and I would love to come up this summer for a girls’ weekend with my friends.

Thanks for everything!

Dear Liz,
Although I was a little apprehensive about this trip, since it was such a long drive, I have not stopped telling Don just how amazing your lovely place is. I can’t wait to get back & tell our girls about it. You should be extremely proud of your accomplishments. You are truly a dynamo. I would like you to consider adopting me as a sister. We will definitely be back & hope our daughters will be with us. You gave us much more than what your website offers. My reasons for getting away to relax have all been fulfilled. Would love to take Nala- she is just a dream.

Mahalo (thank you) for a wonderful stay. Your place is terrific! What a relaxing time you provided, with the great location and the total ambience you’ve created. We’ve appreciated all the little things you’ve done to make our stay comfortable and memorable, from the banana bread to the fluorescent worms to the charcoal grill to the directions to the hospital (ouch!). * We truly enjoyed fishing in your pond, especially. Very convenient! You’re a super host, with a great place! Look us up next time you’re in Hawaii!

Dear Mom,
Thank you for such a memorable Labor Day weekend. Sharing laughs, stories, and beers around the campfire until 4:00am on Friday night; lounging on the dock all day Saturday; cooking out with friends & family; and lastly hiking & four wheeling the trails were all the perfect activities for an adventuresome, yet so relaxing mini vacation. But of course the best part is spending time with you. Bailey, Lexi, and Nala are so worn out they will probably sleep for a month—thank God as we depart back to Philly. You know our favorite place to come to wear out the dogs while getting a little R & R is High Country Acres. Until next time…
Love You,

Hello!
Once again we had an incredible time with you again. The cabin looks better than ever. It was great fun hangin’ till 4am Friday night and swimming with the dogs 2 days in a row. My only wish was that you were a little closer. However, then you may get tired of us coming up too often…I would hope not though. Anyway, had a wonderful time.
Thanks Again,

Dear Liz,
I’m so glad my sister-in-law and mother-in-law are planning on coming in October. If Kim hadn’t told me, we wouldn’t have been blessed with your beautiful “High Country Acres” and with meeting you. We were so delighted with the cabin, the peacefulness, and seeing the wild life (7 turkeys & 7 deer so far!). (oops, and 1 cute dog named Nala. I just love the way she jumps). God has blessed you with a true gift of hospitality. We have truly enjoyed our visit and hope to return with our 3 children. Liz, you go above and beyond, which makes us so very thankful. We’ll be praying for continued success for you. You’ve done an awesome job and you should be proud because you’ve created an awesome haven!

This weekend was exactly what our family needed. What a beautiful retreat you have created! I know everyone who passes through here will leave rested and refreshed.
